Areas of research
Language
Processing
How does the human mind process the natural language as we formulate and communicate our thoughts?
Language
Acquisition
What cognitive processes are responsible for first and second language acquisition in children and adults?
Language
Acquisition
What cognitive processes are responsible for first and second language acquisition in children and adults?
Language
Change
How did languages change over the centuries of their history, and how can we reconstruct their ancient states?
Research projects
Corpus-based grammar of Gothic
We are combining corpus and philological methods to reconstruct the functions of verb moods in 4th century Gothic, a crucial source of data on the history of Germanic languages.
High variability in L2 phonology acquisition
We are researching the role of high-variability input in the acquisition of second-language phonological contrasts and its implications for computer-assisted learning of pronunciation.
We develop and apply novel research methods (such as concurrent keystroke logging and eye tracking) to investigate cognitive processes that underlie text production.
ArgCoach: AI and NLP for learning argumentation
We combine artificial intelligence with natural language processing to develop new approaches to learning argumentation.
CyWrite (2013-2019): A project to develop an automated writing evaluation system with built-in biometric process logging
EarlyWritePro (2018-2020): A collaborative project to develop new methods for analyzing writing development
